Bud Powell Centenary

Let's bring Bud home.
Thank you for your interest in the Bud Powell Centenary
project, which aims to honor the great pianist by transferring
his remains to New York City.

We hope to do so in time for his 100th birthday, which is
on 27 September 2024. With the help of your donation, a
headstone will be placed on his grave, at the plot that
Woodlawn cemetery, the Bronx, has reserved for him. At
Woodlawn rest the world's greatest musicians (and some
other great performers). See below for the list.

If you would like to learn more about this singular jazz genius,
click here to read an excerpt from Peter Pullman's Wail: The Life of
Bud Powell
and to see a detailed chronology of his times in music.

Thank you in advance for your support.

Update: A generous donor has offered a matching grant. Once we
have raised $15,000, the donor – who wishes to remain anonymous
– will contribute an additional $15,000 to help
bring Bud home.
